Water animation done in Bongo 2.0 and Rhino 5.0, using the Displacement plug-in.
Please not - this can only be rendered using renderers that support the RDK feature in Rhino 5.
You can download the example model from here (Rhino 5.0 model):

Here's the instructions on how the water was animated:
Open Texture Palette, create a Noise Texture and rename it ‘Wave shape’. Set Spectral Synthesis Type to Turbulence and check Invert. Check WCS and set Size to (5.0, 5.0, 5.0).
Create a plane centered at (0,0,0), 20 units wide and 20 units long. Select the plane and run ApplyDisplecement, pick ‘Wave shape’ as the texture, High as the Initial quality and click OK.
Preview the waves in Shaded viewport.
Right click at timeline tick number 0 and select ‘Add Keyframe – Conent(s) – texture – Wave shape – Precalculated'. Do the same at tick number 50.
Open Keyframe Editor and browse the tree to ‘Render Content – Wave shape – Properties – Noise Texture – Texture offset’. Select tick 50 and change the ‘Texture offset’ to (0, 0, 10). Close Keyframe editor.
Preview the wave animation by pressing and holding down left mouse button on the small right arrow button of the timeline slider.

Thank you Marika, I sent another video and model that I have a problem with smooth motion on the waves....any suggestion there?
Marie - Can you please send me the model and we'll have a look at it? You can send it to: marika.almgren@mcneel.com
This is great, and it works! beautiful motion of waves. How can I make the width and length of the waves much smaller and tighter? Like a 10 times repeat in the same square?....when I did it, the frames got VERY erratic and didn't flow any more...I messed up something and can't get smooth small waves...Please help.
CFee,
I answered you on the forum.

Marika -
I DON’T need you to debug my model. Its NOT " … hard to decide what settings" I changed. I JUST need a SIMPLE ANSWER to my ACTUAL question: is there a “command” to force a full recalc of the timeline ?
CFee,
Answer you here:

For the "No keyframe selected" -problem. We need more info. Is this repeatable? What kind of keyframe did you click on? Are you using Rhino 5 or 6?
Selected object. Clicked EDIT KEYFRAME. "No keyframe selected". SERIOUSLY ?
What's the arcane non-default setting to save the displacement values for the Turbulence version of the Wave Animation per the instruction provided ?
Ran a sample per the instruction provided, the Client LOVED the result, returned to he model with a couple of small tweaks. What SHOULD have been a 5-10 minute quick fix, has turned into a 10-hour nightmare, and of COURSE I'm slamming another deadline. At 3-5 M.I.N.U.T.E.S between keystrokes, when I WAS running beautifully in HIGH GEAR with timeline scrubbing that WAS _WONDERFUL_ - before - now with donuting for 3-5 minutes between keystrokes, I really can't afford to re-populate the settings boxes every time I reload the Assembly model.
Thanks -
C.
