Sure did.  I couldn't think of any other method.

Did You use a similar effect to "stretch" the clear tubing around the ferrule?

Well, for each component that opens up, I made 10 copies ( 11 parts total with original) and put each on a separate layer.  Each of those 10 copies had different cuts (since they are cylindrical in shape I made angular cuts from the center point) to remove material, typically I had a whole part, and then parts with cuts of 10 degrees, 30, 50, 70, 90, 110, 130, 150, 170 and 180 degrees.

By editing the keyframes for each part in the Edit Keyframe General tab I got my effect.

I turned on Visibility for only 1 frame.  For each part, usually I had a keyframe at "0" with visibility turned OFF, then turn visibility "On" at the desired keyframe number, and then then off in the next.  In my case playing the 11 parts takes only 11 frames, each frame showing a different Visible part.

Hope that makes sense.
